Fra i Monti

Terrelle – Lazio

Fra I Monti Winery born in 2018 in Terelle, a small village located in the Comino Valley, among the mountains of Ciociaria, a region in the province of Frosinone and in the heart of Lazio, a region rich in both cultural and gastronomic heritage, featuring outstanding excellence that tells a significant part of the story.
It’s led by Rocco and Benedetto Leone, who have set the goal of reviving and bringing to light old farming traditions by returning to the land and abandoning modern winemaking methods.
The vineyards have their roots in large valleys characterized by red, highly draining soils and a ventilated climate. The old vineyards are located at a high altitude of approximately 1000 meters above sea level and are surrounded by chestnut trees. The predominantly cultivated grape varieties are native to the region, such as Maturano and Semillion, with Cabernet Sauvignon imported from France during the Napoleonic era. All grapes are cultivated following organic practices and without the use of chemical substances. Spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and aging in amphorae characterize the winemaking process.
The production is limited and is characterized by wines with strong character and personality, reminiscent of traditional farming practices.
