Els Bigotis del Gat is a micro wine project from Steve Colombe, based in Porrera, Priorat. I make red wines qualified as DOQ Priorat. There will never be much of it, it will always be different. It exists because of the generosity of my good friend Gerard Batllevell Sima the owner of Celler Joan Sima, where I make the wine. If you are drinking it or have drunk it, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did making it. The first vintage in 2009 was a single barrel of 90% old vine caringnan. Since then each year has seen one or two barrels, usually at least 50% carignan selected from the various vineyards belonging to Celler Joan Sima. In 2015 after three years searching I purchased 0.7 ha of 15-year old garnacha on a steep slope facing southeast-south on the Col Major between Falset and Porrera. Rising up from 500m altitude the vineyard is constantly swept by cooling breezes. Abandoned to encroaching scrub and trees, two years of hard work have transformed it, such that it now produces exceptional quality fruit making richly coloured, aromatic wine with a low pH, ideal for long ageing. From 2016 Els Bigotis del Gat will be based on garnacha from this vineyard.
